I suggest elevating the recipient beyond a/p and talk to the business owner. Also, https://www.moneyhub.co.nz/get-debtors-to-pay-invoices.html has some useful scripts! Not a fun part of any job, but yet a regular occurrence 🙁

First of all thanks a lot for your article, was really interesting and cleared my mind a lot.

I wanted to ask your advice for the following situation:

I’ve been working for a Estate agent company for some time and left as the conditions werent the greatest.

I’ve had a collaboration contract(as a freelance) with them stating that I would have been paid with commission plus financial contributions if the sales target was reached every week. On my contract was also stated that i would have been paid the financial contribution, without reaching the target, if the target was met on the previous week. On these last week I’ve worked as usual without meeting the target.

Just before start collaborating with a new agency I submitted my invoice as usual and with an excuse they told me I couldn’t get paid. This happened 3 weeks ago and I’m still waiting for them to get back to me.

What can I do to get my earned money?

As mentioned in the article, Pay On Time is a good resource to work out what to do and how to do it. They have letter templates and an interest calculator, plus you can ask for advice. Good luck!

For the late payment fees and compensation, how do you actually charge it. Is it something you invoice?

Hope all goes well.

I have a client that has basically been stringing me along for 8months now. He only owes £1000 but it’s a lot of money for my small business.
The business is set up as a limited company and says the company is closed (the shop is shut and the website gone), however, it’s still active on companies house.

He is currently trying to sell the shop because it turns out he owes other people money too.

If I were to put a charge on the building (the shop he’s trying to sell) , would it cost me anything?

Based on what I’ve read on companies house , the shop is owned by the limited company – hence why he hasn’t been able to close the company completely.

He is not aware I know all of this information , I have done the digging and kept it quiet. He simply thinks I’m going to wait around forever and never do anything about it.

Please advise what action you think is best – I’d really appreaciate jt

Yasmin
